Although it does a reasonable job of showing the ball joints in action, the client's first attempt doing it themselves does not show detail or dramatize the product.

Spending a day in the studio, we captured footage of the product in motion from several different angles. One of the biggest challenges was lighting. Mirror-surface images present exceptional challenges for lighting and camera people.

With multiple angles, moving camera shots, good lighting and tight editing, you have a persuasive video. Add a custom score and you have a piece that makes the product the hero.

Be careful when using lots of text on small videos. The messages may be hard to read. This video has the main descriptive copy on-screen using text. In most videos, however, a voice-over narrator would convey the ideas rather than force a viewer to read them. In this case the video is shown much larger on the client’s web site, which makes the copy easy to read.

While the crew did the heavy lifting, I took a palm camcorder and shot some footage of the team in action. In video, lighting is very important. It took our wonderful director of photography about half the day just to light the unit before shooting.
